MYSTERIES OF THE DEEP
‘Longplay’ is a 60 minute audio piece that was composed for a live performance at Hypnotic Spa’s Planetarium residency at Nowadays in Brooklyn, NY.
The process involved first writing a short story, from which seven scenes were selected and turned into a film script. The music was then composed as the soundtrack to these seven scenes. Reading the story or being familiar with the plot is not necessary for the comprehension and enjoyment of the piece; it was merely a part of the process that helped arrive at the final audio piece.
The story is set in Turkey a few decades in the future, and revolves around the government’s use of surveillance and artificial intelligence to try to hold onto power. It explores themes of autocracy, oppression and resistance, and the growing role technology plays to propagate, enable and counter them.
The piece was released as a digital album by the renowned ambient label Mysteries of the Deep on June 5, 2020.
100% of digital sales are donated to Black Lives Matter and related causes.
